Reasons to try making Double Wick Candles
Double wick candles are a natural progressive step for beginner candle makers to try once you’ve mastered your basic single wick candles. It also means you can add larger and therefore more expensive vessels to your candle range, which gives customers more variety and choice.
Here are a few reasons to consider adding double wicks to your collection.
Even Wax Pool:
Double-wick candles tend to create a more even wax pool as they burn. The dual flames help distribute heat more effectively, reducing the likelihood of tunnelling (uneven burning that leaves wax along the sides of the container).
Faster and More Efficient Burn:
With two wicks, the candle burns more efficiently, providing a larger flame and producing more heat. This often results in a faster and more even burn compared to single-wick candles.
Increased Fragrance Throw:
The larger flame created by double wicks can enhance the fragrance throw of scented candles. The increased heat helps release fragrance oils more quickly and effectively, filling the room with the desired scent.
Suitable for Larger Containers:
Double-wick candles are well-suited for larger containers or candles with a wider diameter. The presence of two wicks helps maintain an even burn in these larger formats.

How To Make Double Wick Marble Candles...
- Firstly, prepare and clean your working area, and source all equipment needed.
- Slowly, add your Wax to your melter, turn on and leave to melt. Alternatively add to a double boiler to melt.
- Whilst melting, apply your Stick Ums to the bottom of your Wicks.
- Then, stick firmly to the bottom of your candle glass. For a double wick candle, stick two wicks 1-2cm apart.
- Place your Centering Tool onto your glass, securing your wicks in place.
- Once your wax has melted to 70°C carefully pour your required amount into a suitable jug.
- Next, pour your fragrance and stir well.
- Then, place your candle glass on to a level surface and slowly pour your wax into your jars.
- Ensure your wicks are still central, then leave it to set.
- Once set, carefully remove your wick tool and trim your wicks 1cm from the candle top.
- Using a tool, such as a cocktail stick, push down the side of the candle against the glass. Repeat this around your candle to create 3-4 tunnels.
- Then, using the dropper add 1-2 drops of Liquid Dye into each tunnel.
- Carefully, using a heat gun/hair dryer disperse the colour around your candle to create a watercolour effect. Ensuring the tunnels are submerged with wax and your candle has a smooth top.
- Once you're happy, leave them to set and then you can enjoy your double wick candles!
Why consider adding colour to candles in your product range?
Aesthetic Customisation:
One of the most unique things about creating a marble coloured candle is that each one will be completely unique! That’s such an exciting thing to offer to customers when they know each item is one of a kind.
Creating coloured candles using clear containers will also allow you as a candle maker a huge level of flexibility to make customised ranges for specific themes or events. For example a Valentine’s range could focus on red or pink marble colours adding newness without too much cost to you as a candle maker.
Personalisation for Occasions
Coloured candles can be tailored to specific occasions or celebrations. For example, pastel colours might be used for baby showers, while bold and vibrant hues could be chosen for birthday parties. This personalisation makes candles suitable for gifting on special occasions. This could open an entirely new business opportunity that you can offer to customers bringing in larger volume orders.
