What colourants are best for candles?
For colouring candles you can choose between Dye Chips, Liquid Dyes and Mica Powders depending on your preference.
Our Bekro Dye Chips, offer strong and stable colour for your candles, with minimal impact on burn performance. Also available in a neon range, to add an intense pop of colour to your creations.
Our Liquid Dyes are very highly concentrated and available in a selection of colours, which you can mix to find your perfect shade. Due to their high concentration, a little goes a long way, meaning the dyes will last and you can create endless possibilities of colour. From lighter, pastel shades through to rich, intense colours.
Our Mica Powders are an alternative colourant for wax, that produces an eye-catching pearlescent sheen in your products. They can cause issues with clogging around your wick, if not mixed correctly, so always ensure they have dispersed fully before pouring. They are amazing for use in wax melts, as their shimmer fills the melt pool to create a beautiful effect.

How To Make Your Own Pink Candle...
- Firstly, prepare your area by gathering all the necessary equipment needed.
- Wearing gloves, add your wax to a saucepan and melt on a low heat until your wax reaches 80°C.
- Then, remove from the heat and let cool to 70°C, then pour in your fragrance and stir well.
- Next, add in your dye chips and mix until completely blended and you have achieved your desired colour.
- Let your wax cool to 60°C, whilst cooling you can prepare your candle jar. Stick your wick to the bottom of your jar with a wick stick um, hold your wick central with your wick bar.
- You can now carefully pour your melted wax into your container and leave to set.
- Once set, trim your wick and if needed heat gun the top for a smooth finish.
- Then you can enjoy your Pink Candle!
Top tip: Warm your candle jar before adding your wax, this helps reduce shrinkage. Either warm with a heat gun or soak in hot water, just be careful not to get water in the glass.
Where does the wax go when burning a candle?
As a candle burns the wax disappears, this is caused by evaporation. The heat from the flame causes the wax to melt, this creates a melt pool that soaks up into the wick and evaporates as it is burnt by the flame. Therefore, releasing vapour into the air and filling your home with beautiful scents.
Should you burn a candle to the bottom?
Candles should never be burnt to the bottom, as this is unsafe. The candle glass or jar becomes extremely hot, which is initially absorbed by the wax but the lower the wax level the hotter the jar becomes. As it becomes too hot, it will cause it to break or shatter which increases the risk of a fire or injury. Do not burn when there is less than 1-2cm of wax remaining in your candle.
