How To Make Perfume Samples with Perfumers Alcohol
Are you ready to embark on a fragrant journey into the world of perfume crafting? Whether you're a seasoned enthusiast or a curious beginner, mastering the art of measuring perfumer's alcohol is a crucial step towards creating your signature scents.
In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of measuring and mixing perfumer's alcohol to achieve the perfect balance for your perfume creations.
What is Perfumers Alcohol?
Perfumers' alcohol is a versatile solvent ideal for blending with fragrance oils to create an array of scented products such as perfumes, room sprays, and linen sprays.
Formulated with Denatured Ethanol, Isopropyl Myristate, and Monopropylene Glycol, it provides the perfect base for scent formulations. Depending on the desired strength and International Fragrance Association (IFRA) guidelines, recommended levels of fragrance oil to alcohol vary: 5% for body mist, 10% for eau de toilette, and 20% for eau de parfum.
To make your own scents, gently mix the fragrance and perfumers alcohol until the solution becomes clear, allowing it to sit for 24-48 hours for optimal blending. Note: Some fragrances may impart color, so testing before use is advised.
Understanding Ratios
Before diving into the measuring process, it's essential to understand the ideal ratio for crafting perfume. For our sample bottles, which hold 2ml of perfume and are sold in packs of 10, we recommend a mixture of 80% Perfumers Alcohol and 20% Fragrance Oil. This ratio ensures a well-balanced scent that is neither overpowering nor too subtle.

How To Make Perfume Samples with Perfumers Alcohol
- Firstly, prepare and clean your working area, and source all equipment needed.
- Calculate the total volume of perfume needed to fill all 10 sample bottles. Since each bottle holds 2ml, you'll require a total of 20ml of perfume. Using a measuring cup or graduated cylinder, carefully measure out 16ml of Perfumers Alcohol and 4ml of Fragrance Oil.
- Once you've measured out your ingredients, it's time to mix them together. In a clean, sterile container, combine the Perfumers Alcohol and Fragrance Oil. Using a stirring rod or spoon, thoroughly stir the mixture to ensure that the alcohol and fragrance oil are well blended. This step is crucial for achieving a strong and consistent scent throughout your perfume.
- Now that your perfume mixture is ready, it's time to fill your sample bottles. Using a pipette or dropper, carefully transfer the perfume into each bottle, ensuring that each one is filled to the brim. Once filled, securely fasten the lid onto each bottle to prevent any leakage or evaporation and you're done!
How long should I let my perfume sample mixture sit before testing or packaging?
Allowing your perfume sample mixture to sit for a certain period is essential for the fragrance to fully develop and blend with the alcohol. We recommend letting the solution sit for 24 to 48 hours before testing or packaging. During this time, the fragrance and alcohol will harmonise, resulting in a more balanced and well-rounded scent profile. However, keep in mind that certain fragrances may require longer or shorter resting periods, so it's always a good idea to conduct small-scale tests to determine the optimal waiting time for your specific formulation.
