How To Make a Wax Melt & Candle Christmas Decorations...
- Firstly, prepare your area by gathering all the necessary equipment needed.
- Slowly, add your wax to your melter, turn on and leave to melt. Alternatively add to a double boiler to melt.
- Whilst melting, prep your mould. Cut your wick into your desired lengths and quantities.
- Then using a pin, carefully pierce holes into the top of each mould cavity.
- Thread your wicks through the holes, ensuring the length fits top to bottom of the mould and leave the excess hanging out.
- Next, check your melted wax, once at 70°C pour your required amount into a suitable jug. We are working with colours for detail first so only require small quantities.
- Add in your dye chip and mix well, then pour into your mould or add to the details. Make sure to be quick as it will start to solidify.
- Repeat for all your colours until you are satisfied with your design.
- Next, lay your wicks into the middle of your mould, if the wax is already holding them in place this is fine.
- Pour 200g of wax from your melter into a jug.
- Then, add in your fragrance oil and mix until completely dispersed.
- Once you are happy, slowly pour into your mould to fill each cavity. Then leave to set fully.
- When solidified, carefully remove from your mould.
- Using the excess wick, tie to create a loop.
- Then your Christmas Decorations are ready for your tree!
- When you are ready to use them, either trim your wick and use as a candle or place into a burner and use as a wax melt.
Please ensure your candles are on a flat level surface, away from your tree, when you light them.
How does a pillar candle work?
A pillar candle is a type of candle that stands tall and upright on its own, without the need for any kind of holder. Pillars are made from wax that is poured into a cylinder mold and then allowed to harden. The most common shapes for pillar candles include cylindrical, rectangular, and square.
The burning process is slightly different for each shape because the wax can melt differently depending on a variety of factors such as size or material used in the construction. When lit, an internal heat source known as the ‘wick’ melts the top layer of wax which then vaporizes and combusts due to oxygen molecules present in air. This combustion process creates both light (visible) and heat (thermal energy). As more surface area begins to melt away due to oxidation with air particles, more candle fuel turns into vapours that continue to be released and burned until all fuel is consumed by the flame.
In order for a pillar candle to burn cleanly it must have several important components; first: good quality wax; second: wick materials like cotton; third: optimal wicking length dependent upon size/material so it’s able to hold enough liquid fuel before running out; fourth: correct positioning/attitude so smoke escapes upwards instead of sideways while burning. Last but not least – make sure there are no drafts around… otherwise you might prematurely extinguish your precious flame!
